In accordance with legislation passed in 2002, RCW 17.21.415, the Kiona-Benton City School District will conduct spray applications to manage vegetation and insect pests periodically throughout the school year. Spray applications primarily are conducted when school is not in session. Some may want prior notification. If you would like to be placed on a list to receive prior notification, please inquire at the Maintenance & Operations office, phone number 588-2033. Individuals will be asked to fill out an IPM/SPR form. The list will be kept from September to August. To remain on the list you must renew you request on an annual basis.

IPM (Integrated Pest Management) is an approach that implements regular monitoring and record keeping to determine if and when treatments are needed. There is no fixed schedule for IPM treatments, which can range from monitoring to baiting and trapping and spraying. Chemical controls are used only when needed and in the least toxic formulation required.

The goal of IPM is to protect human health and reduce loass from pest damage, environmental pollution, human exposure to pesticides and the cost of pest control. Spraying is done when and where monitoring has indicated that vegetation or a pest will cause unacceptable economic, aesthetic or medical injury.
